Executive Director

·         Reports to Board of Directors and Jail administration

Duties:

·         Interview, hire, train, supervise and evaluate all staff workers (counselors, chaplains, social workers, instructors and support staff).

·         Oversee recruitment, training, scheduling and supervision of all volunteers.

·         Prioritize use of agency resources (time, space, personnel).

·         Fundraising and promotion

- Develop fundraising strategies and oversee planning and implementation of events.

- Promote the agency at various off-site functions.

- Oversee writing of grant proposals.

- Meet requirements of funding agencies (tours, paperwork, etc.).

- Plan for and oversee production of promotional material and newsletters, including online and website fundraising opportunities.

·         Organize and set agendas for meetings with Board of Directors.

·         Act as liaison between JUST/inmates and Jail administrators, judicial system and other social service agencies.

- Negotiate contract with County authorities.

- Attend Jail staff meetings.

- Advocate to meet the needs of inmates.

- Establish and maintain good relations between volunteers, staff, Jail personnel and inmates.

·         Maintain fiscal soundness of organization.

- Establish budget for Board approval.

- Oversee receipt, processing and disbursing of funds.

·         Initiate, staff and manage special projects designed to serve inmates.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

·         Comprehensive knowledge of not-for-profit business practices, fund-raising and funds management.

·         Comprehensive skill in human resource management, including recruiting and hiring practices, training and development, motivational techniques, human relations, and interpersonal communication. 

·         Ability to meet people easily and establish relationships quickly.

·         Considerable skill in verbal and written communications, computer literacy, comprehensive understanding of web development and ongoing website maintenance.

·         Knowledge of criminal justice system.

Suggested Training and Experience:

Completion of Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Business Administration, or related field. Master’s Degree preferred. Comprehensive experience with business administration, human resource management, employee training and supervision. Considerable experience with project initiation and implementation. 

Compensation and Benefits:

This is as a full-time salaried position with compensation based on experience and qualifications. Benefits: paid vacation, 4 % SEP (Simplified Employee Pension), and optional TDA (Tax Deferred Annuity) savings plan.
