Since its inception in 1986, JUST has been the only agency providing social services to the men and women incarcerated at the DuPage County Jail. Our teachers, counselors, chaplains and volunteers minister to the whole person by meeting a variety of needs to help inmates make positive changes and to prepare them for success after release. JUST offers programs that address such real-life issues as substance abuse, violence prevention, anger management, GED education, job readiness, computer skills, parenting, and spiritual growth.
Without JUST’s rehabilitative services, men and women would return to the community in the same state in which they arrived at the jail. While they are incarcerated, many ask for help in defeating addictions, and making other changes that will help them to avoid the same problems in the future. Our programs attempt to meet them at their point of need.
Comprehensive programs like JUST have been proven to lower the rate of recidivism by 20-30 percent. Giving inmates the tools to transform their attitudes, drives, direction and practices benefits not just the individuals themselves, but for those who are later released, their families and communities, as well.
